Daniel Kurtz-Phelan is the Editor of Foreign Affairs, a role he has held since January 2021, following three years as Executive Editor of the publication. He has an extensive background in foreign policy and journalism, having served on the policy planning staff at the U.S. State Department, where he was a speechwriter for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. A graduate of Yale University, he is also the author of The China Mission, a critically acclaimed book on George Marshall’s post-World War II diplomatic efforts in China. Kurtz-Phelan’s work has appeared in prominent outlets such as The New York Times and The New Yorker.
