In this episode I interview Dhiego Silva, a paleontology PhD candidate from Brazil. Dhiego studies microfossils of the Itararé Group in the Panará Basin in Brazil to understand what the environments of the past were like through the microfauna and the characteristics of the microorganisms that once lived there. Through my conversation with him, I was able to make sense of all this jargon and gain a better understanding of the process paleontologists use to help create a window to the past. One important lesson was that paleontology is not just dinosaurs, there are so many interesting and powerful organisms to study to better understand what the world looked like in the distant past.
