June is Gay Pride month, with events happening globally recognizing the victories, and ongoing struggles, of the LGBQT community. But a movement in Boston to start a Straight Pride parade has led to a backlash against the organizers. So, should there be a "Straight Pride"?

One of the organizers, John Hugo, states, "Straight people are an oppressed majority. We will fight for the right of straights everywhere to express pride in themselves without fear of judgement and hate. The day will come when straights will finally be included as equals among all of the other orientations.”

Responses to this statement were swift, with Twitter especially lighting up with reasons why there shouldn't be a Straight Pride Parade. My friend Alison King shared a very strong and straight-talking response as to why there's no need for a Straight Pride Parade.

As the arguments for and against this Straight Pride continue, I look at both sides, and share examples of where Gay Pride originated and why it's more than "just a celebration".
