The prevalence of gestational diabetes is increasing worldwide. This is partly fuelled global obesity pandemic. Gestational diabetes is important because of its effect on mother and baby.
In this ‘on demand’ eLearning session, Dr Johann Crauss, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist will discuss in detail the diagnosis and management of gestational diabetes.
You will learn about the interplay between insulin deficiency and insulin resistance. You will also learn about risk factors, screening and identification of gestational diabetes. You will also learn about the different criteria used to diagnose gestational diabetes. General management is discussed in detail as will be the role home blood glucose monitoring with particular emphasis on the 1 hour post prandial glucose. Ultrasound scanning, dietary advice, pharmacological treatment and management of labour are also described.
On completion of the session you will be able to download a certificate of participation which you can use for accreditation purposes
