In today’s episode, Sarah will explore the false narrative of Christopher Columbus, provide information about the Taíno people who lived in the Caribbean prior to his arrival, and suggest ways that K-12 teachers can teach about all of this in their classrooms. Exploring well-known narratives in a new way can sometimes make people uncomfortable, particularly when we highlight the non-heroic qualities of someone branded a hero. Teachers can receive heavy pushback. To mitigate this, Sarah will take the fear and uncertainty out of teaching this content by providing teachers suggestions for how to answer challenging student/parent questions. We hope that you learn something new and happy teaching, everyone!
