Simple psychology tells us that
it's more effective to reward ourselves
than bribe ourselves.
If you have a task that's been sitting in your in-tray or inbox
for a few days or weeks,
and you've been putting it off
then you need to tackle it.
But there are two ways to do that:
Bribe yourself: "I'll just have a coffee or go out for a break and then I'll start the task...
or
Reward yourself - "I'll do the task, and then I'll have a nice coffee or go out for a break.
Bribing is risky and you're in danger of not getting round to the task at all.
Rewarding is more diligent, and the reward feels sooo much better because it's attached to accomplishment.
So, this week
do that pesky task first
then reward yourself.
It always feels better.
