An excellent assessment of a very complex and much abused subject. The reference to the Soviet Union at the end was rather glib. If the bombs were dropped on Japan purely to pressurise Stalin, why was Russia allowed to keep half of Europe, and immediately communise China, North Korea, North Vietnam, etc? Contrary to their propaganda, the West did nothing to exploit its nuclear monopoly, 1945 - 1949.
