Recent technological advances are bringing networking a step forwardtowards the goal of service provisioning on anytime, anywhere basis -while ensuring instant and secure communications. However, thisinnovation is bounded by the constraints included into original Internetdesign where such notions as support of mobility, security ofcommunications, and active networking were not anticipated. For thatreason, this technological advancement came at a price of the increasednetwork complexity and reduced data transfer performance inheterogeneous network environment. The fundamental cause of inefficiencylies in the difficulty of network configuration and management to followthe ever changing users' and applications' needs. In this framework, the seminar aims at providing an overview on theconcepts of cognitive networking, providing some interesting approachesand achieved results, in order to outline the existence of anevolutionary approach to bring the benefits of self-configuration andself-management in TCP/IP networks.
