環境情報系（環境デザイン、人間環境科学、先端生命科学、先端情報システム、先端領域デザイン）の各領域における問題発 見・解決のパラダイムについて学習する。講義は４つの演習と最終プレゼンテーションから構成される。演習では、どの研究プロジェクトでも共通に求められる「物を作る能力」「そのための仕組みや構造を考える能力」の獲得を目指す。これからの社会で求められる能力は、書籍からの受け売りの知識や言葉遊びではなく、身体を通して思考し、問題を発見・解決していく能力である。すなわち、この講義では、演習を通じて「創造」を自らの手で実現するための基礎的なトレニーングを積むことを主眼とする。そして、受講生自身が手を動かして成し得た経験とそれに伴う知識を獲得することで、経験に基づかない概念のむなしさを知るとともに、物を作ることの喜びを感じてもらうことを主眼に置いている。 環境情報学部生としての今後の4年間で何を学ぶべきかを考える際の土台となる意識を醸成する。
