The world is facing risks with potentially catastrophic consequences. Most recently, COVID-19 has shown the devastating effects of communicable diseases. At the same time, carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere continue to rise, a slower process than a pandemic but already causing many deaths related to extreme weather events.
The second of the Global Challenges Foundation policy perspective series examines how learning from earlier progress can facilitate action today, both on the global environment and on other challenges.
Jens Orback, Executive Director of the Global Challenges Foundation, interviews Mats Engström, the author of the report as well as writer, journalist, and former Deputy State Secretary at the Swedish Ministry of the Environment. Comments are provided by Adriana Erthal Abdenur, a Brazilian social scientist with extensive experience in international security. She is the co-founder and Executive Director of Plataforma CIPÓ.
