Welcome to Life Patterns, a podcast and living literature review series which explores transdisciplinary career issues.

I’m Dr Faye Miller, the author of new book Producing Shared Understanding for Digital and Social Innovation. I’m also founding director of Human Constellation, a global research and career development consultancy.

In our first series, we’ll be exploring several concepts, skills and mindsets we can use in our work and everyday lives. I call these concepts “bridging concepts” because increasing our awareness of them can help guide our thinking towards bridging the gaps or divides.

Life Patterns is a reference to one of the bridging concepts being discussed from my book – “Noticing patterns to know the gaps… All scientific study is about noticing patterns in nature occurring across our differences… different cultures, fields, industries, environments or perspectives.”

In career development, we can understand our life patterns through nurturing and developing our life stories. Life experiences inform our understanding of ourselves and other people. As our life stories unfold and evolve over time, through noticing our individual and collective patterns, we can clarify gaps in knowledge and also come to know our own beliefs and values.

In the first episode of Life Patterns we’ll explore the concept and practice of shared understanding. One of the first essential steps to developing shared understanding is developing the skill of knowing the gaps through combining creativity and imagination.

I hope you’ll join us for the first episode in March this year!
