There’s a bit of a difference in the latest episode on Now Heart This. The folks at Anchor.fm (who submit the show to Spotify) have told me that this, my latest episode, does not confirm to their guidelines. It’s not because I’m infringing any copyright in the Spotify show, as all the tracks have previously been uploaded by, and are monetised by, the artists (or their labels) themselves.

This is, quite simply, creative control over my shows.  They want me to present a show that is “composed of roughly 25% music (meaning 75% of your episode is talk)”.  That’s not going to happen under my control. I want to let the music do the talking, and although I have been known to go off a length rant from time to time I do not want to do this for Now Hear This.  I have appealed against the decision, but it’s fallen on deaf ears.

I now have the option of stopping the show or moving it to another platform. I know Mixcloud has always worked out when copyright tracks are being used and paid royalties, so this seems to be the obvious choice.  I have really enjoyed using the Spotify features to find different artists from those I find for PCP and TDZ and I would like to continue, so from now on NHT will only be available on Mixcloud.  I will continue to publish the playlist that drives the show via Spotify.
