Today, half of the world's populations live in cities; by 2030, an additional five billion people will have joined them. Presented by University of Washington Provost Phyllis Wise, Daniel S. Friedman's lecture will explore the "analogical city" and offer five interpretive vignettes that frame evolving images of the city, each featuring a singular author and artwork that illuminate major and minor themes of human experience.

Daniel S. Friedman is dean of the College of Built Environments (formerly the College of Architecture and Urban Planning) at the University of Washington. He lectures and writes widely on professional education and ethics, public architecture, and 20th century theory.
