Jeremy Macdonald is the content and training manager for sphero education. He was formerly the director of technology for a school district in central Oregon, in the United States, and has over 10 years experience in the classroom. His role at Sphero involves helping to get more rich and meaningful content out to the sphero community and schools so that teachers have a better foundation when starting to use Sphero and Lightning Lab. Although Sphero could be seen at first glance as a gadget or novelty, Jeremy explains how its actually a very robust educational tool for teaching what some people might label as STEM, or science, technology engineering and maths. Whilst it’s a tool that teachers with little coding experience can use with their students, it also sets a solid base for more advanced programming in senior years. As with all classroom resources, careful thought needs to go into its implementation. But when done well, the results can be extraordinary. I started by asking Jeremy what he thought students were actually responding to when they first saw Sphero.
