Synopsis: On the second day we got some more speakers on the microphones and more impressions from eurucamp. Additionally to technical interviews we learned some nice things about coffee.
Rin is a web developer at bitcrowd who did live coding at eurucamp with gosu. Gosu is a library to build 2d games using Ruby. In her talk she build a side-scroller from scratch. We talked about how Gosu could be used for teaching and the 48 hour game challenge ludum dare.
Jan is a web developer from Hamburg and believes that the web should be more decentralized. We talked about different areas where this philosophy applies and what we can do to move towards a more decentralized world: From Mailbox, ownCloud, gitlab, webfinger, unhosted to selecting a hoster. We should start with our own things and then evangelize the non-technical people.
Paolo is the author of the book Metaprogramming Ruby and the keynote speaker of this years eurucamp. In his keynote he talked about simple, complex and complicated. He explained the difference between the latter two and how it affects the way we distribute tasks in our companies. He gave suggestions on how to do it differently.
Joanne works at thoughtbot doing web development, but she loves to do more visual programming. Last year at eurucamp she talked about processing and this year she gave a workshop about D3.js. We talked about all things D3 and when to use it instead of a tool like Highchart. If you want to get into D3, she suggests Interactive Data Visualization for the Web as a good starting point.
Jessica and Blazej work at THE BARN in Berlin. They are serving coffee at eurucamp sponsored by Travis this year so we talked about coffee and how to get started with drinking better coffee. What are the tools you need to get started and what should you keep in mind when buying beans from a roaster.
