My daughter, Jamelah, joined me to talk about an issue she has been having with Hastings College regarding their required $6,000 meal plan for freshmen and sophomores. She met with college staff to discuss her concerns as she will be living in a campus apartment next year that has a kitchenette, so she feels that she will not need the meal plan.She only used about $1,000 of the meal plan this year proving that it isn't necessary for her. That doesn't matter to the campus because of, "Policy" and "That's the way it has always been." How that is satisfactory is something we can't wrap our heads around. This appears to be a situation where the school is trying to stash extra cash as there are other classmates that feel the same way and experienced the same thing. Why not roll the money over? They don't even have the ability to treat someone else to lunch with the money they have on their books.
