One thing that is almost inseparable from a Programmer's life is the sharing of memes within a Company's Slack Group, Reddit Forum or whenever you visit a new city and reaching out to the Coding Community there, in Hong Kong that would be our very own Codeaholics or some other Hackerspace group I'm not a part of yet. This time I was joined by not one, not two but three different Programmers all with different backgrounds and frameworks they operate on. They got in touch through a Meetup event around and are frequent-goers to such events as CodeConf that was happening the weekend before. We talked about a lot of things as we all work in different environments trying to achieve somewhat similar things, efficient bug-free software according to our individual project specifications, but we do it in vastly different ways. Some tools like Slack for quick real-time help-asking or simple chats among corporate members seem to be common, and the distraction sites like Reddit, 9Gag and etc. are also in our daily routine. I first talked to Kevin HA. Tan from Malaysia who happened to be visiting Hong Kong for his personal errands. He was looking out for a nice work spot since he has no office here and we talked about many possible locations. I suggested a few Co-working Locations like Garage Society or Eaton House but seeing that he only needed a Day-pass, or perhaps a Weekend-Pass, he was not interested in them. He was working on a Full-stack project for his client back in Malaysia and I admired him for carrying his work with him wherever he goes. A true Stoic and a Veteran WebDev at Heart.Mark Larsen, the Startup Guy, was a recommendation by Kevin since GogoVan, the company that Mark works for had just achieved Unicorn status, being the first in Asia to do so. Mark shared some insights about IT in the start-up environment how things can be hectic, but very enjoyable at the same time. He understands full-well that he has a lot to catch up for in terms of experience in Coding since he had started off his career as a Product Manager turned Coder right before he relocated to Hong Kong. He fell in love with JavaScript, an inefficient and know-it-all programming language, but we love him just the same.Hazlan Rozaimi was our voice from the more corporate world of programming. Though I think every IT Department of every major companies tend to stand out in terms of cultures and vision from the rest of the company since it is by definition filled with the nerdiest and geekiest people around. Hazlan was also a Web guy and he had lots to say about how Framework and Language can play a big role in development therefore being really good at one language or doing one thing is not enough, but it is also necessary to diversify your skills so you can change and rise with the times; A master of adaptability.Topics of Politics, Natural Languages, Blockchain, Programming Languages, Machine-Learning, Adaptability of Skill-sets when you are a Programmer, Food, Hong Kong Working Environment and many more were covered. It was very hard to pinpoint one down when we have the four of us, with fries in hand, trying to discuss as much as possible with such limited time. I do hope this stands out to be one of the most easy-to-listen hard-to-understand Podcast Episode of the series. Why do these people code? For the dankest of all memes!
